INHERITANCE TO CHARITY

We all live without ever thinking about death , as if we were immortal. Until illness or a misfortune strikes us closely, and then some become frightened and retreat into their lairs, while others think about the future —perhaps not their own, but that of those who will come after them. This is exactly what Renato Giuliani did. After 97 years of living life to the fullest and building a successful company from nothing, he decided to leave precise instructions in his will before passing away. Widowed at the age of 93 and childless, he decided to donate €7 million to a dozen volunteer and research organizations in his city, Varese. That money, just as he had hoped, will help build a better future for those less fortunate than him . Specifically, they will contribute to completely redoing the furnishings of the “ Filippo Del Ponte ” pediatric hospital in Varese, but also to purchasing ambulances , paying for cancer research and supporting social and cultural initiatives.

RENATO GIULIANI

Mr. Renato died wealthy, but his rise was anything but easy . After a brief period of study, he served as a soldier in World War II, where he was held prisoner in a labor camp in Germany. From there, however, his rise began again. Once the conflict was over, he returned to Italy and, together with his brothers, founded an industrial machinery company (Ficep), which he designed himself and which today has offices halfway around the world. After a few decades, however, he distanced himself from his creation and founded a new plastics company , where he worked until his strength gave out.

Despite a life full of successes, when his wife, a faithful companion throughout his life , passed away , he began to question what would remain of him, having no direct descendants. So he researched the volunteer organizations in Varese he could trust. After a period of study and deep reflection, he decided to make the donations. This gesture did not arouse resentment among his close relatives, who instead considered it a truly significant legacy to the community. As a seasoned entrepreneur, however, he was also very selective with this gesture of generosity. Before granting the funding, he ensured that the beneficiaries had a project, that they worked in the social field, and preferably in the Varese area. This was his way of leaving a mark and continuing to build the future of his homeland.
