There are some common mistakes that can reduce the effectiveness of the mask or irritate the skin . Here are the main ones:
- Do not cleanse your face before application. Dirt, makeup, and sebum prevent the ingredients from working at their best.
- Leaving it on too long. More time doesn't mean better results. Some masks, especially clay ones, can dry out the skin excessively if left on for longer than the recommended time.
- Using it too often. Even hydrating masks shouldn't be applied every day, unless specifically recommended. Exfoliating or purifying masks, in particular, can cause irritation if used too frequently.
- Apply it on the eye contour, unless it's a mask specifically for that area. The skin is very delicate and can be easily irritated.
- Don't read the instructions. Each mask has different application times and methods of use.
- Apply to irritated, sunburned or broken skin. It may make inflammation worse.
- Do not moisturize your skin after treatment, especially if the mask is purifying or clay-based. moisturizing cream helps maintain the balance of the skin barrier.
- Talking during application: better to be silent during application, because any movement of the face can negatively affect the skin and not give the expected effect.
- Using a mask that is not suitable for your skin type. For example, a very purifying mask may be too aggressive for a dry skin or sensitive.
- Do not wash your face well after application: Not all masks require rinsing; some must be left on the face and then massaged in for complete absorption. However, a final rinse is always preferable. Mask residue, even the smallest, can lead to clogged pores, allergic reactions, and irritation. Check your hairline, under the nose, chin, and above the eyebrows: these are areas that require a special rinse. And finish the treatment with cold water to close the pores.
- Mixing active products carelessly. If the mask contains exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) or retinol, avoid combining it in the same routine with other strong exfoliating products, to reduce the risk of irritation.
In general, the best way to achieve benefits is to use the mask on clean skin, wait for the recommended time, remove it properly, and finish with a moisturizer. If you have very sensitive skin or suffer from conditions like eczema or rosacea, it's best to choose specially formulated products and use them with caution.
