It's always best to avoid picking flowers that are rotten or damaged by pests.

How to preserve collected flowers

Once cut , the flowers should be placed in buckets filled with water, completely submerging the stems so they can regenerate from the cut, or wrapped in damp newspaper . The flowers should then be conditioned, soaking them in cool water for a few hours. This will prevent them from being affected by temperature fluctuations and will last longer once vased.
