Marco and Fabio are almost the same age, both in their nineties . But it's not just their age that brings them together, but also a gesture of great generosity, carried out in the same way. Through their caregivers, both Ukrainian, they brought several children to Italy, and today they host them in their homes.
FABIO CASTELLI
Fabio Castelli, originally from Calco, lives in Carvico, in the province of Bergamo. He has always been involved in public life, and was even mayor of Garlate. At ninety, he lives with a Ukrainian caregiver, Alessia Pikh, who cares for him around the clock, while his wife is in a retirement home. As soon as the war broke out in Ukraine , Fabio asked Alessia what she could do for her family. The answer was immediate. Alessia's daughter-in-law, Natalia Pikh, 36, and her children, Veronika, 14, and Nasario, 12, arrived in Carvico. Finally, her daughter, Yuliia (32), and her granddaughter, Anastasia (12), also arrived. In total, five people—four women and one child—while the men remained in Ukraine to defend their country. Thanks to Fabio's welcome, Alessia's family feels at ease and feels protected from what is happening in Ukraine. But every day they repeat the same wish: to return home . As soon as possible.

MARCO BORGHINI
Marco Borghini, ninety like Fabio, has also decided to host seven Ukrainian children and teenagers and their mothers in his home in Parma. The refugees, ranging in age from 2 to 17 , fled Lviv and traveled by bus through Poland and Hungary to Milan and then Parma. Thanks to Marco's generosity, Natalya, the ninety-year-old's caregiver for eleven years, took care of their arrival. She considers the young people arriving from Ukraine "all like grandchildren." Her gesture came as no surprise in the city: Marco is well-known; until the early 1990s, he ran a highly popular shop, "La Casa dello Sport," and everyone appreciates his humanity and social skills.
