I never believed the fairy tale of Hollywood stars engaged in environmental battles. When I see a great actor, a character from the entertainment industry, a model who breaks through the catwalk and the screen, who they proclaim themselves champions of the green, I smell a great stench of greenwashing. And punctually, confirmations of my doubts arrive from the news, from true facts. As in the last case: the tequila, obviously with a “sustainable” brand, which the Hollywood stars themselves are testimonials of green They produce it by destroying forests, reducing water availability, increasing local poverty. And by wasting natural resources. five states of Mexico. In practice, through a real environmental disaster.

GREENWASHING STAR OF HOLLYWOOD
A case that set a precedent was that of Matt DamonHe grabbed the headlines and the attention of the most important American TV talk shows just by issuing a provocative statement: "I will never use the bathroom again until free access to water is granted to every man and woman in the world." We don't know if Damon continues to skip bathing, risking some infection, but we know for sure that thanks to his stance, the American actor has entered the world of environmentalist Hollywood stars. Those who are very popular with the American public, bordering on naivety. And meanwhile, lack of water in several parts of the Global South it remains a goal of theAgenda for Sustainable Development 2030 prepared by the UN: a goal, unfortunately, still very far away. While George Clooney, Matt Damon's colleague, wastes a lot of water, as we will see in this article, to produce his Mexican tequila.

VIP ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMPIONS
The trend of projecting a Hollywood star towards the environmentalist universe was launched by the powerful press offices and marketing experts who take care of the image of these people. The reasons are obvious. Sustainability is a buzzword, and will be for a long time to come, and a celebrity in the film or fashion world, to stay on top of the game, always needs the same thing: to get noticed. To show the face of a good and caring person. Stars used to be sent to Africa to be photographed with starving children: a shot, a check (not even a particularly generous one), and the deal was done. Now the competition has been raised, the mood of its own. It is not that of the children who die of hunger or thirst, but the sustainability and the environment must be protected. This is what Hollywood stars say they compete to see who has the best credentials green to be exhibited.
THE STAR TEQUILA THAT DEFORESTS MEXICO
But then there are the accidents along the way. The latest one is truly incredible. In Mexico there are five states where the...agave which allows a specific liqueur, highly sought after on the market, to call itself "tequila". It's a shame that this local production generates a huge one deforestation, and deprives the local populations of running water, impoverishing them. But who leads the plundering, after having built, with the greenwashing, an environmentalist public image? The usual American stars. In the front row appears George Clooney, with the brand Casamigos, in partnership with Rande Gerber, the husband of Cindy Crawford. Then we have Rita Ora with tequila Prospero, Michael Jordan to Cincoro, Kendall Jenner to 818, Arnold Schwarzenegger to Wolves 1707 e Dwayne Johnson to The Rock. They have two things in common: they are all environmental stars, and with their tequila production they destroy the environment.
TEQUILA IS PRODUCED BY DESTROYING FORESTS
Mexico is the world's leading tequila producer, producing 273 million liters annually. Everything is concentrated in five states of the country, where, of course, the products of our environmentalist stars are also found (the adjective "sustainable" and the phrase "artisanal production" always appear on the labels). The damage is epic, and it will be difficult to remedy, given the interests at stake. In the state of Jalisco alone, one of the five golden states for tequila production, 16 hectares of forest were lost in one year. Meanwhile, agave leaves are worth at least $22 a kilo, and a bottle of tequila owned by Hollywood celebrities sells for between $50 and $78 a bottle. These are very high margins, which allow the stars to solve a problem they have just achieved success: how to invest the money earned from their work. The best thing is to dive headlong into productions that, through the greenwashing (as defined by the European Commission: “Misappropriation of environmental virtues aimed at creating a green image”), make a lot of money and a lot of popularity.
HOLLYWOOD STARS IN THE AMAZON
Unfortunately, this tragicomic film is repeated wherever there is an environmental or climate emergency. The famous ones remain: Cristiano Ronaldo and Madonna's cries of pain over the Amazon firesIt's a shame they arrived, with social media megaphones blaring, on one of the rare occasions when nothing was happening in the Amazon. But meanwhile, the stars had successfully campaigned for the environment.

- The Olympics in Brazil are already a major defeat for the environment and forests.
- Pollution in London worse than Beijing. The English capital is choking in smog.
