Green Breath: Plants to Clean the Air

To what extent the plant can change not only the aesthetics of places and environments, but also the level of pollutionAnd how can they be transformed from merely decorative elements into true natural and vegetal filters? New research and new formats are being developed around these questions, as in the case of the project Green Breath.

GREEN BREATH

The idea of Green Breath is Carolina Camurati, a Jungian-trained psychotherapist who aims to create urban spaces where the presence of plants and greenery is increasingly strategic and functional to improving the environment. From here a small greenhouses to purify the air, biowalls, sustainable gardens. Contexts where plants can eliminate up to 95 percent of airborne toxins. "Our squares, streets, public spaces, and open spaces, including indoor public spaces, are filled with plants to purify the air without the need for systems or air conditioning. They are not only furnished but also enriched by a natural ecosystem that softens the urban and human impact on the environment we inhabit."

Green Breath It is a project that is inspired by the Air Factory, the intervention carried out in Florence at the former tobacco factory under the supervision of Pnat, the spin-off of the University of Florence created by the scientist Stefano Mancuso. Air Factory A botanical filtration system uses plants to create a natural air purification device. Banana trees, ficus, Kentia palms, and philodendrons are some of the plants that trap and degrade polluting molecules, both organic and inorganic (from carbon dioxide to fine particles).
