"Games in Prison": The project that entertains inmates in Fermo prison.

The project  "Prison Game" in Fermo Prison, carried out in collaboration with the University of Macerata, is part of a broader initiative for reintegration and social inclusion aimed at prisoners of the Fermo prison, focused on practical activities (mainly sporting, but also theatrical and educational).

The basic idea is to use “games” (sports, theatre, group activities) as educational and rehabilitative tool, that is, reducing isolation and conflicts, promoting sociability and cooperation, strengthening personal skills useful for reintegration into society

The project is structured as a set of workshops and activities carried out directly in the institute:

• Guided sports activities
  Sports such as volleyball (including sitting volleyball), athletics, table tennis and motor activities adapted to the prison context.
  The goal is not just to "play sports," but to work on collaboration, respect for the rules, and managing emotions. 
• Educational and training workshops
  The project also involves the CPIA (adult education), therefore literacy and basic training activities.
• Health and safety interventions
  La Green Cross holds first aid and resuscitation sessions to provide useful skills even outside prison.

A network has been created around the project involving various local entities, including:

• Green Cross
• CPIA Fermo
• Tarassaco Cooperative
• Proscenio Teatro Theatre Association

The basic idea is to use “games” (sports, theatre, group activities) as educational and rehabilitative tooli.e.

• reduce isolation and conflict
• promote sociality and cooperation
• strengthen personal skills useful for reintegration into society

The project also helps keep inmates away from the risk of becoming entangled in illegal gambling, which is widespread in Italian prisons.
