Gaetano Orefice, 30, of Neapolitan origins, is a Roman who has demonstrated both courage and passion for his city. While newsstands in Rome continue to close and the newsagent profession is at risk of disappearing, he took an old kiosk, closed for a few years, and transformed it into a small art hub. It certainly sells newspapers and magazines, but also hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
The name itself, Santedicola, evokes a major change: the newsstand's design is reminiscent of a votive kiosk. The new space in Piazza Imola, in the San Giovanni neighborhood, offers art and interior design magazines, books, design objects, Kodak cameras, and organic drinks, with a redesign curated by Dispensable Studio Rome e Galli Design ShipyardThe goal is to transform the old newsstand into a mini-gallery (the space is just 25 square meters), around which there is the opportunity to create a neighborhood community, united by the desire not to let a cultural institution wither, but to bring it back to life with a new organizational formula.
