Bicycles are increasingly popular in many Italian cities, and in some, such as Bolzano, Ferrara, Reggio Emilia, and Ravenna, nearly half of the residents regularly use them as their primary means of urban transportation. Despite this good news, however, thefts are increasing at an unsustainable rate. According to cycling associations and several national surveys, approximately 320.000 bicycles per year, equal to over 800 bikes per day.
