A slow, sustainable, and unique journey through Tuscany's most beautiful inland areas: the Val d'Orcia Railway, which is not a railway line but a tourist route, passes through an area protected since 2004 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Departing from the Asciano station in the province of Siena, the train arrives at the Monte Antico station in the province of Grosseto. The journey lasts 7 to 9 hours, including stops, and passes through the heart of the Val d'Orcia , with its iconic landscapes of hills, cypress trees, and vineyards, making it one of the most scenic train journeys in Italy.
This is an example of a typical trip:
- Departure: 8:50–9:00 from Asciano
- Arrival of the first stage: 10:30–11:30
- Stops + visit to villages / events
- Back to Monte Antico: 17:00 AM – 18:45 PM
Ideally, choose dates when the villages you pass through host festivals, markets, and patron saint celebrations. Stops are a fascinating part of the Val d'Orcia Railway journey.
