Reduce waste destined for landfill or incineration and adopt a new and correct recycling method. This is the goal of FaterSMART, a Venetian company is made up of a group of Italian researchers who, since 2008, have been working on an innovative patent capable of developing a technology aimed at recycling highly polluting domestic waste: disposable diapers, different types of plastics, highly absorbent polymers, but also cellulose and organic waste.
FATERSMART
According to the results of the ISPRA Urban Waste Report of 2017: diapers and all the absorbent feminine hygiene products represent approximately 4% of the total urban waste in Italy. This percentage corresponds, numerically, to approximately 900 thousand tons per year.
FATERSMART RECYCLING PATH
The General Manager of the company, Giovanni Teodorani Fabbri, spoke at the Fair, arguing that this is a challenge that has become reality: today, recycling absorbent products for the person is a simple process, even if it is the result of very complex research.
In the first phase of the recycling processUsed absorbent personal products are collected by specialized operators through door-to-door collection and at centralized facilities. The recovery process then begins when the material arrives at the recycling facility. diapers.

WASTE RECYCLING
The second phaseThe central one is the most important. Here, the autoclave and dryer sterilize, pre-separate, and dry the materials, completely eliminating unpleasant odors and potential pathogens. The final phase, instead, is driven by a battery of separators in series via a system of rotating cylinders that allows the separation and recovery of secondary raw materials. It is therefore a waste 'treatment' phase, from which cellulose, plastic and super-absorbent polymer are obtained.
VIRTUOUS WASTE RECYCLING MODELS
It's a unique recycling initiative featuring useful enzymes, ingenious technologies, perseverance, and a strong environmental awareness. At the heart of FaterSMART's projects is the importance of building new recycling plants like the one the company has developed at its site. Country girl from TrevisoHere, the plant can serve 1 million inhabitants, and for this reason it would be beneficial to replicate it throughout Italy to meet national demand.
