From pasta to cheese, from tomatoes to cured meats. There is no corner of the agri-food universe that producers and retailers of counterfeit foods have not infiltrated. We purchase, and here we, as consumers, also have responsibilities, around 1 billion euros a year. Foods that then end up on our tables are poor in quality and lack the necessary food safety guarantees.
Counterfeit food adds two wastes. The first is to the detriment of consumers who pay a seemingly convenient price, but in reality it is equivalent to a real scam. The second waste concerns the entire Made in Italy agri-food supply chain, which must contend with unfair, yet well-protected and unpunished, competition.
