Fair Food in Caltanissetta

Dimitri Ruvolo, of Russian origin, arrived in Sicily when he was just six years old, welcomed as a refugee. But he certainly couldn't have imagined that, many years later, he would find himself the project's main chef. Fair Food, the Caltanissetta restaurant where those in need can enjoy a full meal for just €1. Among the patrons are Ukrainian refugees, who fled the war invading their country and were served by the Russian "enemy," Dimitri.

The name Fair Food, evokes an idea of social justice also linked to food, around which instead enormous waste is consumed while almost a billion people, and not only in the South of the world, suffer from hunger. Rhetoric aside, Fair food This is how it works: anyone in need can go to Via Amari, in the Petronilla neighborhood, and eat at the restaurant run by volunteers. The cost is a nominal €1 per meal. The service operates from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and is organized to distribute over 150 meals a day.

Aside from the volunteers working on the front lines of the Equo Food project , everyone can contribute to the initiative. Donate excess food that would otherwise be wasted, or even directly contribute financially. Ukrainian refugees , as well as some of the 700 needy families in Caltanissetta, could not fail to come to the local Equo Food , which was founded thanks in part to the work of the Red Cross and a contribution from the Region of Sicily . And cooking for the Ukrainian refugees is Dimitri Ruvolo, also a refugee, who arrived in Italy when he was 6 years old. Dimitri is Russian, and he's very happy to be on the side of the Ukrainians this time.
