The balls absorb dirt and stains from fabrics requiring only a minimal amount of water.water (about 70-80% less than a washing machine standard) to moisten the garments and activate the process. This technology is already widely used in industrial settings (hotel and hospital laundries) and models for the domestic market are being developed.

At the advanced prototype level, however, there is the project orbit by Electrolux, which proposes the use of liquid carbon dioxide.   The CO2 is compressed until it becomes liquid, acting as a natural solvent that dissolves dirt without wetting the garments. At the end of the cycle, the pressure is released, the CO2 gases back into a gaseous state and is recovered, leaving clothes dry and clean.

And LG has also developed a washing technology that uses liquefied carbon dioxide instead ofwaterThe CO₂ is transformed into liquid and then re-evaporated, cleaning the fabrics without discharging water or detergent. For now, it's a lab-developed model, but if the results are encouraging, we'll soon see it on the market.
