Her pain stems from a misdiagnosis, a case of medical malpractice. Then comes the darkness of depression and the ability to recover through sheer willpower.
The ordeal of Edoardo Giordan , born in 1993, began when he recently turned 20. Born in Torrimpietra, a hamlet of Fiumicino, the sports-loving young man felt his right foot and leg frequently numb. Then they turned marble-white, with sharp pains, cramps, and tingling. The diagnosis was Burger's Disease, a rare condition for which extensive physical activity is recommended. In reality, Edoardo suffers from another rare disease, PAES (Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome), for which movement is extremely harmful. So much so that the young man was forced, in a classic case of medical malpractice, to have his leg amputated above the knee. From that moment on, a long period of darkness began in Edoardo's life: a prolonged depression requiring antidepressants.

Everything began to change thanks to a chance encounter in the hospital gym where Edoardo was undergoing his neuromotor rehabilitation. There, he met Andrea Pellegrini, a Paralympic fencing and basketball champion, who helped him learn saber. Then came a second decisive encounter, with Bebe Vio, a Paralympic world foil champion. Edoardo, thanks to fencing, but above all to his willpower and the strength to not waste his life despite the injustice he suffered, became a sports champion, winning several medals, especially in individual and team saber, and in 2018, he won the Paralympic Fencing World Cup in Pisa. He joined the police force and the Art4Sport association, which helps children and young people with prosthetic limbs, under the banner of social sustainability, which means inclusion and sharing. Even when life has become more difficult too soon and drags you towards loneliness and isolation.
