Bicycle thefts in Italy have reached record levels, especially during events and occasions where large crowds gather, and some arrive on bikes. Thus, tailored solutions and services are increasingly available to protect cyclists from this now commonplace risk.
The “Doctor, leave your bike,” Founded in Milan, it's not a bike-sharing service, but the first bicycle valet parking service in Italy. It's primarily active for events or busy locations, such as sporting events and concerts.
It works like a wardrobe, except that you don't leave coats and raincoats there, but bicycles, at a time and in a context where the risk of theft is extremely high.
- You arrive by bike at the event or service area.
- You hand over the bike to the operators (“valetti”).
- Parrot register the bike (check-in) and they take her to a fenced and guarded area.
- The bike will be kept under guard during the event.
- When you come back, show the ticket or code and the operators they give it back to you (check-out).
In addition to the bike you can also leave:
- helmet
- shine
- bags or accessories
Everything is kept safe to reduce the risk of theft or damage while the cyclist is at the event.
“Dottò laschi la bici” is a service invented by Scintilla Cicloprogetti , a social promotion association (APS) founded with the aim of promoting and developing initiatives related to the use of bicycles in the city and beyond, especially to make urban cycling mobility easier, safer, and more widespread.
