Necessary

  • Corn husks (the outer leaves of the cob), already dry but still flexible
  • Natural string or thread
  • Bowl with water
  • Scissors

Preparation

  • Start by choosing some bracts similar in size. Slightly trim the top and bottom of each leaf to make them even and smooth. This will help you achieve a more harmonious shape.
  • Place the bracts in a bowl Fill them with water and let them soak for a few minutes. Remove them and dry them with paper towels.
  • Overlap some bractsFold them over towards the centre and tie them at the top with a knot of string: you have just formed the head.
  • Gently lift the bracts up, over the head, and fold them back, letting them fall around the top knot. Then secure everything with another piece of string just below the head: this will be the doll's neck.
  • Take two narrower bracts and roll them up on themselves To form two arms, insert them horizontally under the bracts that form the torso and secure them with string. You can tie the ends of the arms with small knots of string to simulate hands.
  • Cut off the bottom part of the doll to even out the length of the leaves and create a regular base. This step also helps to give her stability. If you like, you can further personalize your doll by adding details like raffia hair, an apron, a bow, or drawing a face with a thin marker.
