While so many dolphins die, stranded by uncontrollable currents or trapped in fishing nets, there are also miracles of the opposite kind. This happened in South Africa, where a video of a stranded dolphin being rescued went viral. The man responsible for the rescue was Percy Montgomery, a former national rugby champion. He had to make two attempts before allowing the dolphin to return to the sea.

In the first instance, he picked him up and then let go, but the mammal returned to the shore. With the second attempt, the rescue was successful, amid applause and enthusiasm from the beachgoers present. Including Doris Van Niekerk, Percy's wife, who filmed the whole thing and posted it online on Instagram.
