Beach mats (inflatable ones made of PVC or similar materials) can be reused in many ways instead of being thrown away and wasted. With simple upcycling , they can be turned into mats (including yoga mats), bags, and travel pillows.

Let's get started with this cute and useful beach bag : cut a rectangle of beach mat, fold it in half, and sew the sides together, leaving an opening for access. Add a zipper or button closure , and voilà, ready to use.

A great idea is to make a raincoat out of it . Cut the mattress to the size of the wearer, leaving room for the sleeves. Sew the sides together to form a roomy jacket. Add a hood and Velcro closures on the front.
GIRANDOLA
Making a pinwheel out of a beach mat is easy: cut out a square and attach a wooden stick to the bottom. Make some cuts and bend the four ends toward the center, securing them with glue . This is a lively pastime perfect for little ones.

You can make a colorful picture with an old mattress you don't want to throw away . Cut it into small pieces of different shapes and sizes. Take a cardboard or canvas base and arrange the pieces on it to create a design of your choice. Glue the pieces to the base with strong glue and add any additional details with paint or markers.

To make a glasses case , cut the mat into a rectangle large enough to wrap your sunglasses . Fold the rectangle in half and sew the open sides, leaving an opening for your glasses. Add a Velcro closure or snap to keep them secure.
Beach bag
Cut the mat to size and sew the pieces together to create a spacious and durable beach bag. Add zippers or buttons to close it and carry your items sustainably.
Picnic rug
You can also make a picnic blanket/rug from an old mat : cut it to the size you need and spread it out on the ground. It'll be comfortable and insulating, super easy to clean, and perfect for enjoying outdoor lunches.
Deckchair cover
Reuse the mat to cover a deck chair : just cut out the corresponding shape and secure it with Velcro or elastic cords to obtain a waterproof cover on which you can lie down even when your swimsuit is wet.
Travel cushion
Make a handy travel pillow by cutting the mattress into a rectangle or banana shape and sewing it along the edges. Add padding or equip it with a mouthpiece to blow into, and once deflated, it can easily be stowed in your suitcase. Traveling has never been so comfortable.
Yoga mat
Finally, you can use the mat to create a yoga mat . Cut it to the right size for proper exercise and add a non-slip coating on the back (optional) to ensure stability during poses.
