The choir of the prisoners of the Dozza prison in Bologna is called Papageno Choir It's one of the best-known projects in Italy that combines music and social reintegration. It's quite structured; it's not simply a pastime. The choir was founded within the Rocco D'Amato prison (Dozza) and is promoted by the association Mozart14, linked to the figure of the conductor Claudio Abbado.
It is led by experienced musicians, educators, and operators (often also with music therapy skills), and all inmate volunteers can participate, up to a maximum of 40 people per group.
The range of music selected is very wide, including classical music, Gregorian chants, and even contemporary pop and film soundtracks.
