How to choose the right glasses frame

For a round face, thin, square frames are recommended. For an oblong face, oval, curved frames are recommended.

One way to waste money on glasses is to choose the wrong frame. Yet making the right choice isn't difficult: just consider two factors: your face shape and the color.

Each face shape has frames that best enhance it:

  • Oval face: Almost any frame works; soft or rectangular lines are ideal.
  • Round face: prefer thin, square frames that make the face look slimmer.
  • Square face: round or oval frames soften strong features.
  • Face to heart: Frames that are wider at the bottom or have no rims help balance the forehead.
  • Small or trapezoidal face: it can be enhanced with shapes that accentuate the upper part, such as the “cat-eye” and butterfly frames.
As for the color, it must harmonize with the skin tone, eyes and hair:
  • Light skin: cool shades like blue, gray, silver, dove gray.
  • Medium skin: neutral colors like brown, bronze, olive green.
  • Dark skin: Bright colors or dark frames contrast well.

The live test is essential: comfort, stability and how the colour harmonizes with the face change.
