How to recover creams at the end of the package

The most effective methods are with bottles (soft and hard) and tubes. You risk wasting up to 20 percent of the product.

body creams
All the creams we use for cosmetics have containers that, in some way, encourage waste. In fact, it's estimated that up to 10 percent of the product left in a soft tube can be thrown away, but in the case of a rigid bottle, this percentage can even double. How can we avoid this waste, which also has an economic cost? The solutions are all simple and quick, but they vary based on the packaging the cream comes in: a tube, a soft or rigid bottle.
In the case of the tube ((and this also applies to toothpaste), you always have to squeeze it well, and then:
  • Always start from the bottom and roll the tube up as you use it.
  • Use one flat spatula, the back of a teaspoon or a pipe squeezer key to crush better.
  • When the cream seems finished, cut the tube in half with scissors.
  • Inside you will often find different applications still usable.
  • Use a clean spatula to scoop out the product.

If the cream is thick, it may be even easier to recover:

  • Leave the tube upside down for a few hours (or overnight).
  • The product will flow down towards the cap.

The method changes if the product is contained in a bottle. If it is soft:

  • Turn the bottle upside down  for a few hours or all night.
  • Tap the bottom lightly on the palm of the hand.
  • If the cream is very thick, you can put it in for a few minutes warm water.
  • If necessary, unscrew the cap and use a long spatula or a teaspoon.

If the bottle is rigid and has a pump, recovering the cream becomes more difficult, because it certainly doesn't catch all of it. So it's best to:

  • Unscrew the pump when no more product comes out.
  • Tilt the bottle and use a long spatula.
  • You can add a very small quantity of a compatible product (e.g. a few drops of the same cream or, for shampoo/conditioner, very little water), or even simply water, to facilitate the removal.

The airless bottle should be the one that wastes the least. But still, when it seems empty and you still feel heavy, try:

  • Disassemble it without breaking it.
  • Recover any leftover cream with a teaspoon or spatula.
