HOW TO MAKE A CROCHET HAT

Life can be extended in many ways, even with the simplest things, if we learn not to waste them in their essentiality. This is the case with knitting, which seemed to have disappeared from the memories of the black-and-white world, the world of elderly, hard-working grandmothers, and yet it is making a huge comeback in our new lifestyles. Why? One reason is that knitting, like playing cards, painting, and doing crossword puzzles, are among those activities that, according to neurological scientists, extend life by keeping neurodegenerative diseases of the brain at bay. In a word: knitting is good for the brain.

CROCHET HAT

Even in the editorial office, we tried making this hat using a magazine tutorial. The key is knowing how to make the basic stitches: slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet. These are the four most commonly used stitches and are very easy to learn. Once you've mastered these stitches, you can let your imagination run wild. We used a yarn suitable for a size 4 crochet hook.

Here are the fitting instructions to create the bonnet in photo:

  • Round 1: Make a circle and work 10 half double crochets inside. Close with a slip stitch.
  • Round n°2: to increase the work, make 2 half double crochets in each of the ones below (from 10 they will become 20) always close the round with a slip stitch
  • Round 3: Now you need to have 30 stitches, so you need to work a half double crochet in the "V" of the two half double crochets from the previous round. Bind off with a slip stitch.
  • Round n°4: Always in the “V” work the half double crochets until you have 40, close with a slip stitch
  • Round n°5: Still in the “V” work the half double crochets until you have 50 and close with a slip stitch
  • From round 6 to round 13: Work a double crochet in each half double crochet below, keeping the total 50 stitches. Close with a slip stitch.
  • From round 14 to round 18: To secure the work and prevent it from deforming over time, work 1 single crochet into each stitch below. Always close with a slip stitch.
  • At this point, your hat should be finished and should reach just below your ears. You can decide whether to continue with more rounds of single crochet until you have a cuff or stop.
  • To fasten the work, always do 1 round of slip stitch.

It's really simple and fun to make original and creative accessories. Imagination is one of the key ingredients in the success of any project.
