Don't waste newspaper paperHere's an idea for recycling it. As you'll see, the resulting weave can be used to create a gift box, a basket for the trash, a flower vase or any other container.
Making a storage basket has never been easier or more fun than creating one from scratch, free of charge, using recycled flyer or newspaper paper. You create many small cones that, when joined together, form the warp and weft for a truly imaginative upcycled project. A step-by-step photo tutorial and video help you assemble it.
How to make a woven basket with newspaper
To carry out this project you must recover as many newspapers or flyers as possible with one precaution: the pages must not be laminated, the newspaper must be thin without coating
What you need for a small basket
- One or more newspapers
- A wool needle or a skewer
- Vinyl glue
- Clothespins
Method
- First you need to cut the newspaper into three pieces lengthwise.
- Now you have to roll up the strip obtained using the wool iron and the vinyl glue to secure the cone.
- You need to make as many cones as possible so you don't run out while working.
- Place the cones on a flat surface as shown in the photo (15 at the beginning) and start rolling one of the cones around the work, taking care to pass it once under and once over the other cones.
- Help yourself with some clothespins to hold your work in place while you proceed.
- When you get to the top of the work, fold the cones over themselves and secure them with a dot of vinyl glue.
If you want, you can polish the basket by brushing it with vinyl glue, otherwise you can leave it rough
The process is a bit long but, in this video, a Brazilian craftsman shows you step by step how to do it.
