They are highly sought after on the market, due to their practicality and ease of cooking, and also for their flavor, which is usually very pleasant. But fish burgers, also called fishburger, hide many pitfalls that consumers often ignore. Starting with the amount of fish they contain (not always high-quality): between 50 and 60 percent. And the rest? Aside from breadcrumbs (which, by the way, aren't actually fish or fish proteins), there are a series of ingredients with little nutritional value and even unhealthy properties. Carbohydrates, for example, can make up 20-25 percent of fish burgers, to which are added sugars (common sugars, including caramelized sugars, dextrose, or glucose syrup) that raise blood sugar levels; additives and thickeners such as xanthan gum (which can lead to inflammation) and guar gum (which can alter the microbiota).
According to the test published by the magazine the buoyBased on individual evaluation elements, few fish burger brands reach a passing grade, and among the ones that fail is Findus, which nevertheless promotes its supposed sustainability while simultaneously flooding the market with products stuffed with undesirable ingredients.
This is the ranking of the 15 brands of fishburger reviewed on behalf of the magazine The life preserver.
