Plastic-free straws made from algae. A patent from two American designers (photo)

In America, plastic straw waste is considered a real national problem. Biodegradable straws come in a variety of colors and flavors, from mint to vanilla, and even strawberry.

Straws made mainly from seaweed and other natural ingredients, obtained through a patented technology that transforms them into a material with a similar appearance, feel and performance to plastic but completely biodegradable, compostable and safe even for contact with food.
The invention is due to two American designers, Chelsea Briganti and Leigh Ann Tucker, who created an entire collection, called Loliwarewith household products capable of replacing plastic, from glasses to cutlery, including coffee cups. The straws by the designer duo have different colors and also different flavors: vanilla, mint, strawberry and caramel. All excellent alternatives to the horrible plastic that not only doesn't create flavors, but kills them.

The straw made from algae maintains its shape and functionality for many hours in a drink (typically over 18–24 hours) and if, for any reason, they end up in the sea, they do not cause any harm to fish or the marine ecosystem.
