Hydrogen-powered bicycles: you can buy them in Italy, but they're still too expensive.

It has a range of 50-60 kilometers and the core technology comes from China. The real problem is the price: €4.800.

While waiting for the arrival of the hydrogen car, in Italy you can already buy a bicycle that uses the technology fuel cell, in direct competition with both traditional models and thee-bikeThe hydrogen bicycle is sold by the company Remove from Riva del Garda, in the province of Trento, and comes from China, as it is manufactured by the Chinese company Youon, specialized in means of transport, from bicycles to cars, which use technology fuel cell.

The model sold in Italy (a country where it is also possible to buy wooden bike) is the basic one, the Hyryd Sport Bike 1.0 which, imported from China, can also be purchased with a refill kit that makes the bike user completely independent in terms of refueling. The kit, in fact, includes a home hydrolyzer, which is the same size as a small microwave oven and uses 400 ml of tap water to produce 40 grams of green hydrogen in a time that usually doesn't exceed five hours. This home refueling service fills the water bottle, which in turn is used as a refill and inserted into the frame of the hydrogen bicycle.

The bottle transmits energy to a small 180W motor placed in the rear hub of the bicycle, without the need to use a lithium battery as in the case of the e-bikes. By the way, the Chinese of Youon are working in collaboration with the Japanese of Toyota to transfer electric bike technology to the automobile as well.

The real limits of this medium, which on paper and for its characteristics, can be considered "planet"There are two, however, and they're not insignificant. The first is the range, which currently doesn't exceed 50-60 kilometers. That's not a small amount, but this makes the hydrogen bike unsuitable for everyone who uses two-wheelers for excursions, hiking, and sports. The second limitation, definitely more important, is the price: l'e-bike imported into Italy and with Chinese technology, it costs 4.800 euros. A decidedly “unsustainable” price, or in any case from the product catalogue “sustainable luxury”.
