The name comes from its special cultivation: white tea , in fact, is obtained with a very rigorous selection that favors only the buds covered with a silver-white down.

What

Harvested in a remote corner of the world, it brings a delicate and unique flavor to your cup, not only a delight for the palate but also a true panacea for the mind and body. White tea is the most prized of all teas available due to its less artificial and more natural harvesting and processing methods than its black and green cousins.

This tea is best enjoyed at around 60°C (140°F) and only needs a couple of minutes of infusion to enjoy it at its best, which is why it's also particularly quick to prepare. Let's look at all the properties and benefits of white tea, a true panacea for health and well-being.

Cultivation

White tea is grown in a specific region of China and is harvested from the plantations at dawn for only two days a year in spring. In addition to China, white tea is also grown in India , Japan , and more recently in Indonesia , East Africa , the Caucasus , and South America . This tea's distinctive feature is that it is harvested from young plants and tender shoots with white hairs around them, hence the name. The shoots and leaves are then steamed and slowly dried. Unlike black or green tea , white tea is not rolled; it is only slightly oxidized, making it one of the least processed and most natural teas.

Benefits

This tea is rich in antioxidants that protect the body from free radical damage . Free radicals, along with stress and poor diet, can damage the skin and cause premature aging. Drinking white tea helps maintain youthful, radiant skin.

It has the power to reduce blood pressure and thin the blood, improving arterial function. White tea also improves bone density, helping the body prevent osteoporosis and arthritis. It supports the immune system with its antibacterial and antiviral effects. White tea contains small amounts of fluoride and other nutrients that keep teeth strong and healthy, and has a protective effect on teeth and gums.

Some research has demonstrated the dietary benefits of drinking white tea, which helps metabolize the sugars contained in carbohydrates, promoting proper weight loss when combined with a balanced diet.

Property

As in the case of green tea, even with white tea, one hundred grams of infusion prepared with water contains just one calorie and 99 grams of water.
But at the same time they provide the body with, among other things:
  • 0,22 grams of protein
  • 8 milligrams of Potassium
  • 1 milligram of magnesium
  • 1 milligram of sodium
  • 0,02 milligrams of Iron
Also in white tea there are vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6, and Vitamin C: and these components also contribute to making it suitable for well-scheduled weight loss programs. Finally, always keep in mind that even white tea contains a fair amount of caffeine: about 15 milligrams per 100 grams of infusion.

Variety

There are four varieties of white tea and they are distinguished, in turn, by specific quality characteristics.
  • Pai Hao Yin Zhen. This is the rarest and most expensive variety. The reason? It's harvested only from the tenderest and youngest shoots.
  • Gong Mei. It has a stronger and fruitier flavor than all other varieties.
  • Shou Mei. The least valuable variant: it is basically made with previously discarded leaves.
  • Pai Mu Tan. It includes both the shoots and the leaves, and for this reason it has a more intense flavor than other varieties.
