The criminals who set fire to the Malibù bar in La Caletta, a hamlet of Siniscola, in the province of Nuoro, hadn't counted on the energy of solidarity. CCTV footage, which is the focus of the police investigation, shows a masked man dousing the bar with gasoline and lighting the fuse. In just a few hours, during the night between May 4th and 5th, 2026, the entire exterior of the bar was destroyed, while the interior was saved thanks to the timely intervention of the firefighters.

But just hours after the attack, the family of Marco and Tonino Fadda, the bar's owners, well-known in the area, saw firsthand the effects of the chain of solidarity. They launched a fundraiser and participated live and in large numbers in the reconstruction of the bar to allow the Faddas to reopen. And they succeeded.

While investigations, as often happens in these cases, are slow and fail to yield any results, at least in the short term, the volunteers at La Caletta have demonstrated what can be done when you roll up your sleeves to help those who have suffered such a serious act of violence. In the past, in attacks like this (the most likely motive is extortion, as La Caletta becomes a popular area for tourists and locals during the summer), it wasn't even possible to gather testimonies: no one had seen or heard anything, and everyone remained silent, partly out of fear of possible retaliation. Now, however, the volunteers who renovated the Malibù bar, at least to reopen it, have shown not only generosity but also courage.
