Tips for small household chores, dispensed by inexperienced do-it-yourselfers, have become a literary genre. But some of the most common are truly foolish, dangerous, and potentially wasteful. Such is the case with the suggestion to hang pictures on the walls, unless they're particularly important, with toothpaste, to avoid drilling holes with nails.
This crazy idea stems from the fact that toothpaste is thick and sticky when it comes out of the tube, and can easily harden when exposed to air. Characteristics that make it seem like a kind of “emergency glue”, and from here some people started using it for small temporary fixes (gluing paper, plugging micro holes) and then for hanging lightweight pictures.
Too bad the toothpaste:
- It holds very little, e As soon as it dries it loses adhesion, so the painting risks falling.
- It can stain the wall, as it contains substances (such as abrasives and bleaches) that can leave streaks.
- It's certainly not made for hanging anything on the walls, and it doesn't have the strength or durability of a real adhesive.
So forget this nonsense idea, and if you really want to find an alternative to chios, you can choose between:
- special adhesive strips
- ganci adesivi
- double sided (if the frame, such as paper or photo, is really very light).
