Free sanitary pads and tampons in Campania schools

For now, it's just a good intention, but it could soon become a regional law. In Campania, the Regional Council approved a motion allowing free dispensers of sanitary pads and tampons to be installed in middle and high schools. A simple gesture, but one that can make a difference when it's needed most.

The initiative also stems from the experience of the Municipality of Bacoli, which launched a project with free menstrual product dispensers in local schools. The regional proposal aims to extend the model to middle and high schools throughout the region.

The Regional Council's unanimous vote on July 8, 2026, commits the regional administration to transform its political direction into a concrete project (for example, with a resolution, an operational plan, or funding).

At that point the practical details will be defined to establish:

• • which schools to involve (the motion refers to middle and high schools);
  • whether to start with a pilot project or a general extension;
  • the budget and source of resources;
  • who will purchase and distribute the products;
  • how the dispensers will be installed and supplied.

  The institutions, in coordination with the Region and the relevant offices, will likely be responsible for actually organizing the location of the distributors and managing the service.
