Bordalo II, the artist who transforms waste into works of art

An art of reuse and assembly, reflecting on how our excessive and misguided consumption is destroying the planet, endangering the survival of countless animal species. His installations are also found in Rome and Turin.

Car parts and old tires, plastic sheets, household appliances that no longer work, electrical cables but also aluminum cans, sofas abandoned on the street and broken toys: any waste material, in the hands of Bordalo II, it turns into a work of art.

BORDALO II

Born in 1987 and Portuguese from Lisbon, Artur Bordalo, known as Bordalo II in homage to his grandfather the painter Real Bordalo, recovers everything that society discards and transforms it into amazing works of art street art.Objective: to make us reflect on the excessive production of waste and, above all, on the risks that disproportionate consumption of resources and pollution can have on nature and animals.

ART WITH WASTE

His works, in fact, are sculptural installations depicting bears, fish, panthers, lions, pandas, koalas and owls as well as bees at risk of extinction and sea turtles, increasingly victims of plastic thrown into our seas. Animals are represented precisely by the materials that put them in great dangerA strong critique of our increasingly consumerist society, which uses and throws away, with no respect for the environment. The elements that compose Bordalo II's works are, in fact, everyday objects that end up in landfills or, even worse, on the side of a road, in the countryside, on a beach, or directly in the sea.

BIG TRASH ANIMALS BORDALO II

Ben 62 tons of reused materials starting from 2012 for the creation of its “Big Trash Animals” which today decorate the walls of cities such as Lisbon, London, Berlin and Tahiti and the series “Half Half Pieces" in which only half of the animals are made from scrap materials. The remaining part is painted with paint and varnish.

In 2016, Bordalo II created a special installation made of car parts, broken bicycles and old tires also for the San Pietro Station in Rome.

"The Bear" it is instead the big bear hosted along the wall of the Colosseum Theater in Turin. And there are several works by Bordalo II scattered throughout Norway, Poland and the United States.

WORKS OF ART WITH WASTE

An art made of reuse and assembly which colors the urban landscape and, once again, reminds us how important it is to recover and, above all, not waste.

The huge one is beautiful Iberian lynx made with waste and located at the Nations Park of Lisbon to raise awareness of the need to protect this species whose survival is at risk.

Of great visual and emotional impact the giant beaver made in Paris near the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and composed of garbage containers, folding chairs, bicycle tires, and bumpers. All waste that Bordalo II recovered directly on site.

His message is clear: we are destroying the planet. Safeguarding it is a duty and a commitment that each of us must assume.
