Cruel Tourism: Boris the Monkey Had His Teeth Pulled Out for Safe Selfies with Visitors

ANIMAL VIOLENCE FOR TOURISM –

They are famous for their wide-open eyes that convey so much tenderness to anyone who looks at them . To everyone except their "exploiters" who will do anything for profit . These are the small slow lorises , primates very common in Asia, which on the island of Koh Samui, in Thailand, are a real attraction. Many of these specimens are captured and exploited to make money from tourists , who unknowingly can't wait to take pictures with these lovable little monkeys . To avoid "inconveniences", lorises are increasingly tortured to render themselves harmless when in the arms of visitors. This sad fate also befell Boris , a little monkey whose teeth were pulled out and a wrist broken.

BORIS CARED FOR BY VOLUNTEERS FROM WILDLIFE FRIENDS FOUNDATION THAILAND

ANIMALS ABUSED FOR TOURISM –

Fortunately, this loris was rescued by the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WWFT) , which launched an online awareness campaign to put an end to this cruelty. This is just the latest episode of animals being mistreated to provide tourists with a nice photo to post on social media . We must be aware that the responsibility, even if indirect, also lies with us because, when we encounter scenes like this, instead of participating in this sad circus, we should stop for a moment and reflect on the cruelty that lies beneath.
