The challenge is squarely aimed at platforms like Tinder, which promise "life-changing" encounters. And the method revives, without squandering, the ancient tradition of "friends of friends." In France, Emma Gil and Clara Rodriguez created a highly marriageable dating agency that matches couples through the classic word-of-mouth referral process. It all began when Emma, who worked at a consulting firm, vented to Clara, the administrative manager of several theater companies, lamenting her frustration at having to resort to dating apps to make new friends. So the two women began digging into their friendships, and Clara remembered a handsome and intelligent carpenter who she immediately considered the perfect match for Emma. And the method worked.
From there, the two women decided to open their own dating agency ("I Know the Right One for You"), which utilizes circles formed by mutual friends to select people who might be compatible. Once a potential match has been identified, the founders organize and create the conditions for in-person meetings until a possible conclusion, one way or another. Members simply fill out a form with their personal preferences to facilitate the search and narrow down the scope of their search.
Emma and Clara's business was immediately a great success and expanded from Bordeaux to other cities in France, such as Grenoble, Montpellier and Toulouse.
