Running costs are around 53 percent less than a diesel or petrol car.

Electric cars are certainly advantageous in terms of savings: they mean a horizontal reduction in costs, from fuel to maintenance. They also reduce parking and entry into restricted traffic zones (ZTL) in historic city centers.

Provision

The first saving concerns refueling: here is the comparison with an average use per 100 km:

  • Gas: 11–13,5 euros
  • Gas 6-6,5 euros
  • methane 5-5,5 euros
  • Diesel: 9-11 euros
  • Electric (charging at home): ~3,7–5,5 euros
  • Electric (public charging stations): ~7–9,5 euros

Free stamp duty and other benefits

Among the things that have worsened the relationship between cars and consumers over the years have been the growing practical problems we face every day. From expensive parking to traffic and the closure of entire urban areas. The electric car solves all of these in one fell swoop. Parking is free in the areas marked with blue stripes. Access to restricted traffic zones is often free (although there is now a trend to charge for electric cars too) And on days when the municipal administration bans traffic, electric car owners can drive. Finally, there's no road tax to pay, and several companies offer discounts on policies dedicated to electric car owners.

Machine maintenance

According to Federcarrozzieri, the association of Italian body shops, an electric car has running costs 53 percent less than a diesel or gasoline-powered car.
The reason for this marked difference is simple: an electric car has a lot fewer things to break compared to a traditional car.
In particular:
  • The engine is simpler
  • It does not require the use of oil with related filters
  • Transmission is also very simple
  • Brakes last much longer
The only real exception, in terms of maintenance costs, concerns the battery, which is very expensive and requires particular attention (in this case it can easily last about ten years).
Despite the obvious savings over its lifetime, electric cars still suffer from the drawbacks of their high list price and the difficulty of finding them. The model countries we should look to are: Japan where a small-displacement electric car costs around 6 thousand euros , China where the batteries recharge in 144 seconds.
