A slow, sustainable, and unique journey through Tuscany's most beautiful inland areas: the Val d'Orcia Railway, which is not a railway line but a tourist route, passes through an area protected since 2004 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The train departs from Asciano station, in the province of Siena, and arrives at Monte Antico station, in the province of Grosseto. The journey takes 7 to 9 hours, including stops, and passes through the heart of the Val d'Orcia, with iconic landscapes of hills, cypress trees and vineyards, thus representing one of the most scenic train journeys in Italy.
This is an example of a typical trip:
- Departure: 8:50–9:00 from Asciano
- Arrival of the first stage: 10:30–11:30
- Stops + visit to villages / events
- Back to Monte Antico: 17:00 AM – 18:45 PM
Ideally, choose dates when the villages you pass through host festivals, markets, and patron saint celebrations. Stops are a fascinating part of the Val d'Orcia Railway journey.
