Thomas Dambo: The Artist Who Transforms Waste into Sculptures

THOMAS DAMBO SCULPTURES

Thomas Dambo is a Danish artist and designer. His goal is to create works, primarily in wood but also other recycled materials , that interact seamlessly with their surroundings. His work ranges from small interior design pieces to large-scale urban design projects. His dream is to entertain children around the world and inspire adults to consider trash and discarded materials as resources, not waste.

THOMAS DAMBO'S WOODEN SCULPTURES

Artist Dumbo has created around twenty urban artworks over the past 20 years, mostly in the Copenhagen area. Mythological creatures and enormous, gentle giants blend seamlessly into the environment, entertaining and thought-provoking at the same time. The Six Forgotten Giants , for example, are six sculptures made from recycled wood , with which the artist has created a wonderful treasure hunt for children in the woods around Copenhagen. To keep the little ones entertained, the giant wooden sculptures contain clues. Troels The Troll is a friendly giant wooden elf with imaginative hair made from wild plants. The elf holds a swing for children to play on. Anna of Green was created from wood, old pallets , and waste materials from the 2016 MS Artville Festival in Hamburg. The work depicts a nature goddess. Her body is part of Mother Earth, from which only her head emerges. Her hair is made from the crown of a 7-meter-tall tree. The message is to remember that nature is something within us and that we must therefore protect. Always.
