SandStorm: The robot that cleans and diagnoses solar panels on its own

The project was born from the Sicilian startup Reiwa Engine. Cleaning costs are reduced by 30 percent and the panels become more efficient.

team

Un robot that cleans itself solar panels, and diagnoses them to understand what conditions they are in. It's called SandStorm and was created by Reiwa Engine, a Sicilian startup in the renewable energy sector.

SANDSTORM SOLAR PANEL CLEANING ROBOT

SandStorm cleans solar panels by moving freely between rows of panels and differences in level, autonomously dry cleaning the photovoltaic panels. It is made from 100% recyclable and reusable materials. It is also capable of performing preventative maintenance thanks to its thermographic analysis system (sensors and software).

SandStorm allows you to reduce current cleaning costs by 30% and reduce the economic loss caused by the loss of solar panel production due to soiling (accumulation of dust or sand) by approximately 95%.

REIWA ENGINE

Reiwa Engine's SandStorm consists of two main components: the drive unit and the guidance units. The drive units allow the robot to move freely and overcome any obstacle caused by differences in level. The guidance units serve to anchor, guide, and align the robot during climbing. SandStorm is therefore able to position itself completely autonomously in any area of the photovoltaic system. Furthermore, it has no maintenance costs because it features wear-free components and software that allows for real-time maintenance at no cost.

The project is a candidate for the 2023 Non Sprecare Award, in the Startup section. To submit your project, follow the instructions provided. here.
