Solar panels: prices drop, efficiency increases

In 14 years, solar panel prices have dropped by 80 percent. Efficiency, however, has steadily increased. And within the year, the number of small systems will grow by 20-25 percent.

PHOTOVOLTAIC PANEL PRICES –

Good news continues to arrive from the renewable energy sector, particularly photovoltaic : while panel and system prices are decreasing, down 80 percent over the last 14 years, efficiency continues to increase. Furthermore, the number of small-scale systems is expected to grow by 20-25 percent within the year. And the future seems clear: solar will become increasingly affordable and will threaten other forms of energy.

SOLAR THERMAL SYSTEM –

When it comes to renewables, solar thermal energy, used for water heating, deserves special mention. Here too, lower prices and increased efficiency go hand in hand; these systems also benefit from a 65 percent tax bonus . A family consuming 240 liters a day and purchasing a system costing between €5,000 and €6,000, before tax deductions, will save €600 a year and pay for the system in just six years.
