Now the news comes from a study published in the journal Acs Sustainable Chemistry and carried out by a group of experts led by Professor Ram Gupta, professor of biochemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

SOY LECITHIN FOR SEA CLEANING –

Gupta started from the most extreme situation from an environmental point of view: the disasters caused by the dispersion of oil in the sea. So far, the substances used to clean marine waters, in cases like these, have been highly toxic both for marine species and for humans.. One evil was being remedied, in practice, with another evil that had the only positive effect of dispersing hydrocarbons. "So I thought of a dispersing agent that was more eco-friendly," says Gupta.And soy lecithin is non-toxic while being biodegradable.».

SOY PHOSPHOLIPIDS –

The sea-cleaning action of soy occurs through phospholipids which are substances capable of fragmenting oil stains into very small, almost minuscule parts.And soy is rich in phospholipids, so much so that its action, when tested, immediately proved to be much more effective than the chemical agents used today. The next step is to enrich the formula for cleaning the sea and be able to use the qualities of soy lecithin also for land pollution.
