- umbrellas These items tend to break very easily; a strong gust of wind or a heavy downpour can make them unusable. Instead of throwing them away immediately or storing them without knowing what to do with them, you can try transforming them into a handy shopping bag, which you can always carry with you when you go shopping. With a simple DIY suggested by our reader Emma on her blog "Naturalmentefelice!
DIY bag made from an old broken umbrella
- First of all, get yourself an umbrella that you no longer use and unstitch it all, trying not to damage the fabric. Remove any metal or plastic parts so that you have just one large piece of fabric.
- At this point, fold the fabric in half and cut both a rectangle measuring about 45 cm wide and two strips of about 10 cm wide (the latter will form the handles of the bag).
- Once this is done, start folding the top part of the fabric and add the handle straps, calculating the right distance. Also cut out the triangular tip and sew the bottom of the bag with a double stitch, finishing with a zigzag stitch. Then sew the sides of the bag, fold the handles over, and sew them inside out.
- If you want your bag to also be equipped with a decoration To avoid any additional expense, when choosing the piece of fabric to make it, keep the loop that was used to close the umbrella: your creation will be truly out of the ordinary as well as extremely useful.
