There are countless products on the market for cleaning sinks , but despite often producing good results, they can, in the long run, damage the surface, especially if it's made of stainless steel . It's much better, also from a cost perspective, to rely on some simple and effective natural remedies. These work perfectly, with specific products, to clean, scrub, and polish your sink, eliminating even the most stubborn stains.

Steel sink
One of the most popular methods involves using white vinegar , which should be used after thoroughly cleaning the sink with water and a sponge. Next, wet a dry cloth with white vinegar and wipe it over the sink. After rubbing with the damp cloth, dry with a dry cloth. The steel immediately becomes shiny and clean. To remove stains from your sink, scrub it with baking soda , which produces a kind of abrasive peel. Then, rinse with warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Lemon juice removes rust and limescale stains. Lemon zest (like that of oranges and grapefruits) is used to deodorize stainless steel sinks.
Fragranite sink
If your sink is made of fragranite (acrylic resin with granite particles), you can use a daily mixture of dish soap and baking soda. This type of material can also be cleaned with white vinegar , sprayed directly on the surface and left to sit for about four hours. To prevent the vinegar from evaporating immediately, place sheets of parchment paper over the sink . Polish the sink by rubbing a little olive oil with a damp cloth, then drying with a dry cloth. This will remove water stains and polish at the same time. Prepare a mixture of three parts cream of tartar and one part hydrogen peroxide. Using a damp cloth, spread the mixture thoroughly over the sink until it dries. Then wipe with another damp cloth. Sprinkle a little flour on the sink, rub with a soft, dry cloth, and then rinse: the sink will shine.
Ceramic sink
You can also use window cleaner to clean the sink to remove grease stains. Remove the cleaner with a soft cloth or paper towel. Remove any cloudiness from the sink by sprinkling it with baby oil and wiping it with a soft cloth. Use a paste made from half a cup of borax and three-quarters of lemon juice to clean stubborn stains from your sink, using a cloth or sponge. Then rinse with hot water.
Granite sink
To clean a granite sink, use a soft cloth or sponge. Use a mixture of water and baking soda, or citric acid. Never use bleach.
How to use the sink
Cleaning the sink begins the moment we use it without mistakes. Like these:
- Don't leave foods in the sink that can release acids and stain it. For example: tea, coffee, blueberries, beet.
- Same thing for fruit and fruit juices.
- Try to keep the sink always clean and avoid allowing dirt stains to accumulate.
- Never use a draining board as a cutting board.
