The ongoing wars, more numerous than ever since the end of World War II, don't just sow death and destruction. Some people profit, and a lot: for example, the arms industry, which has never done as much business, in America, as in Europe, as in this period.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the world's 100 largest arms companies achieved a record turnover of approximately 100 million euros in 2024. 679 billion dollars, up by 5,9 % compared to the previous year. The trend was further consolidated in 2025 and 2026, as demonstrated by two examples, one in America and one in Europe.
In the United States, President Donald Trump intends to request an additional $1.500 trillion in arms purchases. In Europe, the German group Rheinmetall has seen its turnover almost double in 2025 compared to a few years earlier (before the boom linked to the war in Ukraine and increased NATO spending: more than 10 billion euros a year, with profits around 30 percent of turnover.
