GORDON HEMPTON
Hempton's adventure did not begin by chance, but was marked by destiny. In 2003 he had almost lost his hearing. and suffered from a terrible ear disorder: he continually heard a buzzing, a noise penetrating and annoying, which even prevented him from sleep wellAfter 18 months of illness Gordon recovered and decided to dedicate his life to fight against noise, that noise which, if it continues to invade all of man's spaces, risks reducing him to a kind of invalid, as Hempton was during his long period of deafness.
RECORDING THE SILENCE
To achieve his feat, he made three trips around the world. in search of suitable places which are becoming fewer and fewer and has recorded the quiet of nature and its sounds. Between one trip and another he settled in the Olympic National Park near Seattle, the quietest oasis in the United States. In fact, his is not just an artistic project but a real battle against noise pollution began in 2005, after the end of his illness. The goal was and is to prevent the planet from being irreversibly enveloped by noise, which increasingly covers and erases the splendid melodies of the nature.
IMPORTANCE OF SILENCE
Suffice it to say that today in the United States, according to Gordon, there are only 12 places left where, during the day, one can spend at least 15 minutes without human acoustic intrusion. This noise endangers the survival of many animal species, which are unable to communicate with each other, and which in humans it raises the hormone stress.. This is why silence must be defended and preserved as one of nature's most precious assets.
