Findus Sofficini still fail

Sofficini, one of the most popular supermarket products and a favorite with children, are once again in the spotlight due to the ingredients used in their production. Findus sofficini, undoubtedly the best-selling and most popular, are once again in the spotlight, following a previous investigation by the monthly magazine Il Salvagente that identified several critical issues. Specifically, the two key ingredients, mozzarella and tomato, are combined with an above-average, and therefore excessive, amount of rapeseed oil. Those containing ham, also paired with mozzarella, contain glucose syrup and polyphosphates, which have also been eliminated from the production of industrially produced cooked hams, as they are considered harmful to health.

In the new investigation, which dates back to January 2025, Findus was rejected for using smoke flavoring, which was used as an alternative to the traditional smoking process to give these soft cheeses a distinctive flavor. Unfortunately, however, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has recently continued to call for the elimination of smoke flavorings, citing the health risks they pose and concerns about genotoxicity. 

Glucose syrup and triphosphates were found in the same Findus soufflés, which are no longer used in the production of industrial ham as they have been shown to hinder the absorption of calcium.

The January 2026 test carried out by Il Salvagente involved 8 products, including sofficini and similar, which were specifically tested for the quality of the filling (mozzarella and ham) and evaluated with the following scores:

• Findus Sofficini cooked ham and mozzarella.  Rating 6,2
• Esselunga Ham and Mozzarella Crèpes. Vote 6
