Ferrarelle's latest trick: mineral water for dogs and cats

Classic speculation from the wealthy pet market. Pets must drink tap water.

A classic marketing ploy to sell a completely useless product, capitalizing on Italians' passion for dogs and cats. Ferrarelle has launched a line called Happy2O, described as “functional water” for dogs and cats.

The range includes:

  • Happy2O Urinary for cats, designed to support the urinary tract.
  • Happy2O Gastrointestinal for dogs, aimed at intestinal well-being.
The products costno, about 1 euro per 500ml bottle, and are sold both individually and in packs.
The water is simply flavored to encourage pets to drink more, and is sold in all pet supply stores.

But is it really necessary? Although Ferrarelle presents its water for dogs and cats as "functional," in reality this is nothing more than a clever marketing ploy. For healthy dogs and cats, regular fresh water is generally sufficient, and even online, many owners have gone wild to emphasize the utter uselessness of the Ferrarelle product, joking about the fact that dogs and cats prefer running water or drinking fountains to traditional bowls.

The only certain thing is that with this move Ferrarelle is trying to enter the rich pet market: in Italy there are about 65 million pets  And one in two Italian families regularly buys pet products. Why not try handing out a few bottles of mineral water too?
