Demetra, a company that collects rainwater to irrigate fields was born in a technical institute

A school that's developing a successful energy efficiency project, inspired by the idea of ​​reducing water waste and maximizing rainwater use. The project was born in Milazzo, in the province of Messina, at the Ettore Majorana Technical and Technological Institute.

DEMETRA START UP AGAINST WATER WASTE

Demeter, this is the name of the start up born in the classrooms of Majorana, starts from a basic idea: recovering rainwater to irrigate the land with the drip technique, without waste and without residues. microplasticThe system works like this: rainwater is stored in large tanks, ready for use without any loss. Rainwater is collected via grates placed on the ground or pipes connected to the gutters of homes.

ETTORE MAJORANA INSTITUTE, MILAZZO

From the tanks, the water is then distributed to the fields by activating a submersible pump that expels it, using the drip irrigation system. Another method for reduce water waste which are very high in agriculture. The automatic system is completely powered by Photovoltaics, without fossil fuels.

DEMETER PROJECT

The Demetra project has had Giovanni Mancuso, professor of Electrical Engineering and Applications, as its team leader, and the operational team is made up of young people between the ages of 16 and 18. Mancuso is supported by Antonio Cartaregia, CEO, Samuel Currò, CFO, and Francesco Formica, Head of Human Resources.
