Necklaces created with recycled materials

Buttons, fabric scraps, doilies, fake pearls. And even Lego pieces. So many potential wastes that become useful.

how to make a DIY necklace
Many recycled materials, from objects destined to become waste, can be used, thanks to creative recycling, to create original DIY necklaces. Buttons, scraps of fabric, pearls and beads, pencils. And even Lego pieces and shoelaces.

Making a necklace with an old T-shirt or any other suitable piece of fabric is really easy. Use scissors to cut strips from the bottom up, then twist the threads together and secure them with a piece of leather or other material, and you're done. You can also insert beads, such as those found in craft stores that specialize in making small jewelry, into the threads.

Pencils

If you have worn out colored pencils at home , instead of throwing them away, cut them into small rounds, punch holes in the sides, and then thread them onto a piece of string. The effect is really fun and will appeal to both adults and children. Alternatively, when they're almost finished, sharpen them and glue them together, then glue them to a sturdy string, and you've got another model ready.

Beads

With pearls (even fake ones, of course), a needle, thread, and a piece of satin, you can create truly glamorous necklaces. Simply sew the pearls to the piece of fabric one at a time and continue along its entire length. Leave a gap at the two ends of the thread to allow for the necklace to be fastened.

Stones

Even with hard stones (both purchased and those collected, for example, on the street or on the beach) beautiful necklaces that look like designer pieces can be made.

  • First, wash the stones in warm water to remove any traces of soil.
  • Smooth out any sharp edges to prevent them from causing damage.
  • Next, drill holes in the stones with the mini-drill at their thickest point to prevent them from splitting.
  • Pass a piece of wire through the holes and then fold it over to create loops through which you can pass the chain or a small strip of fabric that will complete the necklace.

All that remains is to close the necklace with a lobster clasp to be able to wear it.

Lego

I love the idea of a necklace made with Legos that kids no longer use. Take some small, thin bricks and decide on the design of the necklace, which is then secured with glue. Next, pierce the first and last bricks with a hot needle to ensure a small, precise hole. Insert a small jump ring into the hole in each brick, then attach the entire chain or cord, already fitted with a lobster clasp. Done!

Rope

This original necklace, made with thick cord and a plastic or wooden sphere (perhaps one you already have at home), requires little work but is quite eye-catching and perfect for enhancing even the simplest outfits.

Buttons

You can also make beautiful necklaces with buttons you have at home. To do this, you'll need two meters of cord and harden the ends with nail polish to make it easier to thread the buttons. Then, simply thread the buttons in your preferred color sequence (if they're colored) and tie the cord shut.

Doilies

A romantic necklace made with doilies, using the doily itself as a "cameo" in the creation. Simply thread a thread or chain through the doily's links and the necklace is ready to wear.

Jeans

Raise your hand if you don't have at least one pair of worn-out jeans in your closet that you can no longer wear. Well, by cutting out a long strip to make a necklace, and a longer one to roll into a spiral (this will be the pendant), you'll have a delightful piece of jewelry to wear on casual occasions.

Shoelaces

And don't miss this curious and interesting idea for making a DIY necklace at home by recycling shoelaces : collect three of them in different colors and braid them as shown in the photo. Success guaranteed.
