HOW TO MAKE BIRD NESTS WITH PAPER-MÂCHE

There are also other, very simple methods for making bird nests from recycled or low-cost materials. First and foremost, papier-mâché.
  • Take a large plastic bowl and use it as a mold.
  • Overlay strips of paper glued with vinyl glue on the surface of the bowl.
  • Wait until the nest is completely dry.
  • Gently remove it from the bowl and place it in the most suitable place for the birds to arrive.

Even simpler is the plastic bottle method, the one for mineral water, to be clear.
  • Remove a part of the neck by cutting it with scissors.
  • Make three holes and, with a string, hang the bottle on the tree where the birds can nest.
  • Finish the roof of the nest with more plastic, cut to size.

HOW TO MAKE NESTS WITH NEWSPAPER SHEETS

Newspaper sheets, well recycled, are invaluable for making a DIY nest.
  • Cut the sheets into wide strips (around 3-4 centimetres) and soak them in a bowl of water.
  • Take a saucer as a mold and cover it with a first layer of newspaper strips.
  • Cover and secure with a thick brush of glue.
  • Continue with more layers. Recycle more newspapers and reach at least 15-20 layers. 
  • In a couple of days the nest will take the shape of the saucer.
  • Check that it is solid and compact, delicately cut the edges of the nest by aligning the sheets of newspaper with the edges of the saucer.
  • Detach and place your nest where the birds can reach.

WHERE DO YOU PUT A BIRD'S NEST?

The bird nest should be placed on the trees, and it must be secured with wire along the entire circumference of the trunk. The nest must be secured both at the bottom and the top, to make it more stable even in windy conditions. The minimum height is around two meters, the maximum five to six meters.
