China is firmly the country in the world with the highest number of electric cars on the road, accounting for 50 percent of the global fleet of these vehicles. China is also the first major country in the world where more electric cars are sold than any other type of technology. And where the electric car has become a mass-market product with costs less than half those seen in Italy. And China is also the nation that has solved the problem of electric car battery charging times most effectively and comprehensively.

As with car price competition, with a race to ever-lower prices for consumers purchasing entry-level models, Chinese car manufacturers are also fighting a battle for the latest innovation in battery charging. Battery swap stations (called battery swap stations, where you hand in the flat battery and a new one is installed), similar to our gas pumps, are continually evolving to offer consumers and drivers ever-faster refueling times. The result: at third-generation stations, the change takes 3 minutes (180 seconds), but at fourth-generation stations, the most technologically advanced, the change is completed in just 2 minutes and 24 seconds (144 seconds in total).
